Being a DECATS Katy/Sugar Land mentor is so rewarding! It is so wonderful to watch these young people create and expand their minds over the course of 3 weeks! They learn to think outside the box, go outside of their comfort zone and try new skills they may not have realized they had before. The mentors and staff are supportive, skilled and creative in so many ways! This is my 16th year and I look forward to every summer, working with the scholars and mentors!
DECATS has prepared me for several real world situations, by training me mentally with being on an organized schedule, and setting examples for those younger than me. DECATS helped me realize my true learning style, and assisted me to excel in life with strong decision making skills, and perseverance.
My children look forward to DECATS each year, and can’t wait to see the course offerings for the summer. It is a privilege for them to be able to preference the courses of their liking, and learn more about topics that peak their interests. The mentors make it a very welcoming, fun, and challenging experience for the kids to learn and grow throughout the three weeks, while still focusing on God and serving others.
